PICKLEBALL FOR BEGINNERS is written for those who want to learn the game of pickleball. As no doubt you’ve heard, pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. I wanted to let you know that I have never read a book like this before. The way you intersperse the videos with your explanations and the way you write so personally and casually, the book was a fun read. I was able to click on the pictures, and the videos would pop up, so I could watch a video then get right back into reading the book. Very smart! Very clever!

Pickleball for Beginners, as Bob says, is a ‘must read’ for anyone who wants to learn how to play pickleball. The book is filled with links to videos of drills and instruction geared for beginners. For me, the section about comparing lessons with clinics was an eye-opener. Would you rather pay $20 for a ¼ of an hour-long lesson or $55 for a private lesson (100% of an hour)? I took a clinic with three other people, and now in retrospect I think it was a mistake. I wish I had read the book prior to taking the clinic.

I went to a beginner’s clinic with Bob, and he told me about his book. I downloaded it and read through it in one afternoon. Then I went back and reread it, clicking on the videos so I could watch them. They opened up perfectly on my laptop. Amazing! Right away I saw the value of the book and the reasoning behind the deliberate flow from one topic to the next. By watching the videos and reading Bob’s detailed explanations, I was able to practice the strokes against a wall in my garage. I’ve only had the book for a few days, and already I’ve gotten so much out of it.

I’ve now been taking private lessons and have improved so much. I had to choose between lessons and clinics, and thanks to this book I chose lessons. There are a lot of things like this in the book from choosing a paddle to choosing an instructor. It’s a great book. I recommend it to my friends, who are also just learning how to play pickleball.

All I can say is that I wish I read this book before taking some clinics at my local sports club. To begin with, I listened to a friend and bought an expensive paddle that is too heavy for me, and my elbow hurts after playing. The clinics I signed up for were supposed to be for beginners, but there were people there who were definitely not beginners, and it was very uncomfortable for me trying to keep up with them. Lastly, the instructor seemed to favor the better players. He certainly gave them more attention than he did to me or the other beginners. In hindsight, had I read the book first I could have avoided a lot of mistakes that I’m sure many beginners make.

I’m an experienced pickleball player and enter many tournaments each year. I started out as a tennis player so the transition to pickleball was quite natural and easy for me. A friend, who is just starting out playing pickleball, showed me this book. I was blown away. I would call the book a shortcut for anyone who wants to learn how to play pickleball.

Evidently, the author spent a lot of time looking at hundreds of websites and YouTube videos to pick the best ones for a beginner. Plus some good advice on paddles, lessons vs. clinics, and a lot more. I would recommend this book for anyone thinking of learning to play pickleball.

The book is priceless for anyone who wants to learn how to play pickleball. I can’t thank you enough for introducing the sport to me and my wife. We both read the book from cover to cover quickly. Now we go back to it almost daily to watch the videos and get a better understanding of how to play. Great job!
